After you have signed up for Yahoo! Mail Plus, add a new email account to your email program with the following settings:
- POP3 Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
- SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- User name: Your My Yahoo! ID
- Password: Your My Yahoo! password
By default, you'll also receive all the spam that goes to the Bulk Mail folder in Yahoo! Mail, but you can prevent downloading this folder via POP.
If you don't want to or can't use the official POP access provided by Yahoo!, YPOPs! can be an alternative.

In Yahoo! Mail, it's not only easy to manage your contacts, it's also easy to export them to a format that enjoys almost universal popularity and compatibility: CSV. Importing email addresses from CSV files in Outlook, Outlook Express or Gmail, for example, may not always work perfectly, but usually it does, and you get to retain all your email addresses.
Now, to export your Yahoo! Mail address book:

- Select Import Contacts from the menu.
- Look for Yahoo! CSV under Export and click Export Now.
- Click Save when prompted what to do with the file download.
- Choose the location where you want to save the Yahoo.csv copy of your Yahoo! Mail address book.

But having to download the attachment from Yahoo! Mail, starting an adequate application and then opening the downloaded file in that app can get a bit cumbersome for just taking a look.
Fortunately, Yahoo! Mail lets me view attachments instantly, without downloading anything, and without starting (or requiring) any application.
To view an attachment instantly and inline in Yahoo! Mail:
- Open the message containing the attachment in Yahoo! Mail.
- Click on View Attachment next to the attachment you want to take a look at.

This secure method of viewing attachments inline in HTML supports an amazing number of formats: Word, Word Perfect, Excel, Access, dBase, PowerPoint and zipped files, among others.
14. Send webpages:
I'm not sure if what I'm going to tell you today is particularly useful, or whether it can be called a secret. Secrets are always a bit dirty, but this is nevertheless nice. What is it?
Yahoo! Mail has a rich text editor that lets you format your emails or, and that's the secret, forget about writing your own emails altogether and paste a web site instead — with all of its formatting. This can be fun.
To send web pages with Yahoo! Mail:
- Make sure you have enabled the rich text editor in Yahoo! Mail.
- Highlight the text you want to copy in Internet Explorer.
- Press Ctrl-C.
- Click in the body of a new message in Yahoo! Mail.
- Press Ctrl-V.
15. Print a message:
Usually, emails are not something you'd want to print. But there are exceptions, of course, and then Yahoo! Mail's ability to format a message for printing is handy. Yahoo! Mail does that better than some email clients.
To get a message fit to print in Yahoo! Mail:
- Open the message you want to print in Yahoo! Mail.
- Follow the Printable View link.
This opens a new browser window with the message formatted for printing (without ads!).
16. Find all unread messages:
With Yahoo! Mail's advanced search capabilities, you can look for unread messages in all your folders and display them together on one screen.
To find all unread messages in all your Yahoo! Mail folders:
- Select Search Mail from the Yahoo! Mail navigation bar.
- Follow the Advanced Search link.
- As the search criterion, specify: To, Cc, Bcc: contains.
- Type "." (without quotes) in the entry field that follows contains.
- Next, make sure Search is selected under Options:.
- Select Only Unread Messages from the drop-down menu.
- Select all your folders under Look in folders:.
- You may want to keep the Sent folder unchecked.
- Eventually, click Search.
